Picking up where I left off with fan Q&A:
Susanne – Which writer(s) would be your inspiration? In personality, writing style, subject, and/or anything else. Or: which writer would you wanna be for a day (or longer)?
Faith – My inspiration tends to lean to thriller writers, Lee Child, Grisham, people like that. I would never want to be another writer. Living in my own head is hard enough!
Carly – How did you build such depth into the vamp culture, and what were the seeds of inspiration for your ideas?
Faith – The preexisting trope world building led me right to it. You know. All those concepts that, “Vamps burn in the sun,” and are called “creatures of darkness,” and the “crosses burn them or keep them away.” I just needed some unused and unusual twists. 😊
Carly – Why urban fantasy over traditional high fantasy, and were there any unexpected challenges/difficulties writing your universe in a real world setting?
Faith – high fantasy requires a different kind of language and setting, as well as character development. I wanted to write street characters, people who live in the real world, who fight real problems and battles.
Doug – I was most impressed when you credited all the people involved in your work in “Of Claws and Fangs.” In fact it brought a tear to my eye. With what you have built, I can’t believe that you’re done, and when you decide on a new direction you have what you need to take it where you want. That’s not a question, I know, but I felt like saying it.
Faith – Thank you Doug. I have lost major parts of my writing support team in the last 18 months. It’s been hard. It’s been nearly impossible. And I may not write for a bit after finish Nell #6. It may be time for a break. Of course the last time I thought that, Shining Smith popped up in my subconscious, and you know how much rest she left me…
And to you readers — FINAL HEIR comes out soon in e-book and paper. Audio will be released in October.
